Missed the first few rounds of this and when I tuned in it was looking okay for Morrell. I was high on him going into the Benavidez fight, but in that fight and every fight since, he’s just looked underwhelming. That’s what he was looking like here but he was clearly winning the fight. He got hurt bad in the 9th but I thought he’d ride it out and be okay, but damn he got put to sleep on his feet! Big win for Chelli and Morrell is officially in no man’s land. Arguably lost to Khataev and now a stoppage loss as well. Some people on twitter are going to be running the “he got knocked out by a schoolteacher” narrative and it’s going to be awful for him. Deserves the disrespect though because as happy as I am for Chelli, Morrell should not be losing to him. Morrell’s career has gone completely downhill after Benavidez.
