Should Dillian Whyte be banned for life?

On August 12th we were supposed to be seeing a cross roads rematch between two long time rivals in Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte but unfortunately that will not be the case as it has been confirmed that the fight has been canned. This is due to the fact that Whyte has returned an adverse analytic finding in his urine sample taken during the camp for the AJ fight. It truly is a massive shame as many fans, including myself, have been looking forward to the fight and seeing another fun battle between these two. As disappointing as it is I think there is a bigger discussion to be had however as this isn’t Dillian’s first time getting caught using an illegal performance enhancer. Oh no this is his 3rd time getting caught red handed. So my question is, should Dillian Whyte be banned for life? Let’s talk about it.

Dillian first tested positive for a banned substance very early on in his career and served a ban due to strict liability even though he supposedly had a solid reason for it which was that it was in a supplement that he bought at a shop. Many people had no idea he had failed a test when he met AJ for the first time nearly 10 years ago and many people still don’t know he tested positive and served a ban back in the day. This one was swept under the rug and he was able to continue his career while becoming a bit of a star as he headlined quite a few events and was on his way to a world title shot. However he had one more hiccup. He tested positive again. This time it was against Oscar Rivas and the weirdest thing about this case was that Rivas wasn’t made aware of the positive test until after the fight. Dillian and his team declared adamantly that they would get the B sample tested but it’s been around 4 years since that fight and it seems like that’s slipped the bodysnatcher’s mind.

That brings us to this week where Whyte has once again been made aware of an illegal substance which has been found in his piss test. His excuse this time is that Eddie Hearn his long time promoter has tainted his test. Whyte has come out with the craziest conspiracy theory and many are questioning whether he has just been a victim of bad testing standards supposedly just like his countryman Conor Benn who has recently brought up a similar excuse as one of his 15 excuses.

After failing 3 times on 3 different occasions over his whole career is it time to outright ban Whyte from the sport? In my opinion it definitely is. The first time he got caught it was a solid reason and I have heard that the supplement manufacturers changed the product to remove any illegal substance so that one was fair enough at face value. However these second and third failed tests are just craziness. The second one was a blatant attempt at covering up the test and to this day we have not got a resolution on the B sample (which I think is telling) while the third time he has reportedly failed multiple tests and he is coming up with conspiracy theories rather than credible defences. It was clearly last chance saloon for Whyte and so he made sure he could take advantage of it as best he could. Dillian has tested positive multiple times and just like Big Pharma Miller he should be banned for life. His blatant disregard for the rules should have him facing legal consequences as illegal performance enhancers could play a factor in an unfair advantage which could lead to another fighter’s life being permanently altered. I just wanted to add that isn’t it ironic how all these fighters accusing AJ of cheating pop dirty themselves?
